YES ! Nepal is included among the top 10 Value Destination for 2013 to travel by Lonely Planet . Nepal is one of the beautiful country to be in the list by Lonely Planet as best travel destination to travel in 2013. Nepal offers invaluable traveling opportunities and options for sure. We have discussed in the earlier posts about the importance of Nepal for traveling and her wide range offerings to be explored and experienced. Here, some words for Mustang is spent which is the particular destination selected by Lonely Planet for Value Destination - 2013 from Nepal,

The Lonely Planet writes in its webpage : " The completion of a road connnecting Mustaing to China in the north and rest of Nepal to the south will make all difference to this remote region. Lo Manthang, or Mustang as it's usually called, has been dubbed ' little Tibet' or ' the last forbidden kingdom'. though politically is part of Nepal, in language, culture, climate and geography it's Tibet. Untill 1992 nobody from outside was allowed in. for a while after that it was opened up to a few hundred a year and these days anyone can enter, though the pricey trekking permit keeps the numbers down. Expect that to change."

As, said by lonely planet Nepal's Himalayan terrains are being changed by the road connection.  It is obvious for the local people to be part of development but for the enthusiastic trekkers and travelers to the Himalayas it is bad news. The impact of the modern development would not keep everything as it was in the past and as it is in the present. So, you need to hurry up to visit these pristine and fragile region before it records into the history books !!

Popularly known as Mustang lies behind the massif Himalayan ranges of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri making it rain shadow region of Nepal. The region of Mustang is divided into two parts by the government as upper mustang and lower mustang. The trek to Upper Mustang was restricted to any outsiders till 1992. Today, with the special permit from the government any number of foreigners can enter.
The major highlights of the trek and tour is the living Tibetan culture within Nepal, Buddhism, rare medieval Buddhist arts and unique beauty of the Himalayan desert. In 2007 the international explorers found invaluable objects of culture and ancient life there in the caves.

The Upper Mustang trekking (popularly called the Mustang trek), is an exotic tour to unspoiled Tibetan villages in northern Nepal. The main highlights of Mustang trekking are ancient Tibetan villages, rare medieval Buddhist arts, the exotic culture and the unique beauty of the Himalayan desert.

Upper Mustang, perhaps the place where you can see the reflection of ancient Tibet. Very unique and local ancient architecture of the houses fascinates any who visit the region. Mostly they are built with stone and sun baked mud bricks. People mostly grow potatoes, barley and buck wheat .It is a land covering about 2600 sq km in area and 6000 people. The festivals are religious in nature, the Tiji festival  “The chasing of the Demons”  being the biggest and mostly admired festival according to the lunar calendar in around May every year . This small medieval kingdom is ruled by a local king ( the only kingdom and King remained in Nepal officially ) .The capital called Lo Manthang, a walled complex with the houses of local nobilities and monasteries will be one of the main attractions of the Mustang trek.

With a short 25 minutes flight you can reach to Jomsom and enter the lower mustang region first. Then trek to Kagbeni which is the bordering town of the restricted area of Upper Mustang. From here the trail continues through the ancient villages of Samar, Charang, Geling and finally to Lo Manthang at the height of 3750m. from the sea level. There are places of great interest including the Namgyal Gompa ( which also serves as a local court) and the village of Tingkar, Garfuk and Nifuk to explore. You still find people dwelling in the caves in these villages and some caves have amazing stupas and Buddhist murals.

Be ready to explore this " LAST FORBIDDEEN KINGDOM" Before it loose much charms and attractions.
